A Comparison of Andrew Marvell's To His Coy Mistress and John Donne's The Sunne Rising Both poems "To His Coy Mistress" and "The Sunne Rising" were written by metaphysical poets, this is one of many similarities in the poems. However, there are also a number of differences between them. In both poems, there is an obvious link to the theme of "Carpe Diem" which simply means "seize the day". The poems relate to time and that of how it's running out. They seem to be in a rush. The content of the poem is Marvell writing a poem to his love partner. They are truly in love with each other and their love is very passionate for one another. However, there is something missing in their relationship and that is the sexual side. They haven't had sexual intercourse and the poem is about Marvell trying to persuade his partner into making love to him. He feels that time is running out and that they should "seize the moment". The life expectancy was at a lower rate in the times of the poem, and he doesn't want to leave things too late. There were many types of diseases in those days, with health services very limited. Today, our life expectancy is on average 77, however, in those days anyone who reached the age of 40 was considered as an older-aged person. He obviously feels that his partner needs a slight push into making love; he shows this by calling her his "Coy Mistress", which means his shy or reluctant woman. The poem is split into three paragraphs, which is unusual for poems. These three paragraphs state the three stages of argument. The first part is trying o say that if they had all the time in the world, then he wouldn't need to wr... ... can make you feel happy, but love is more important in life. Money can be liked but never loved like true beauty. I believe it's imperative that we look at the poems from a different perspective. Both compliment the women mentioned but both have different messages. "To His Coy Mistress" is a persuasive poem which contains flattery to try and convince the woman to take their relationship to the next level. In "The Sunne Rising", the message is that love is more important than wealth. The main themes are time and love and both are conveyed very cleverly with both wit and deception. I enjoyed both poems as they both showed sound comparisons and true feelings. I preferred the poem by Andrew Marvell as it had a sense of urgency and it was rhythmic to which I found exciting as I never knew what to expect next in the poem.

It truly seems as though the days of having full privacy is over with the coming of these new leaks by Edward Snowden. The government has many borderline unethical powers that are Justified by terrorism today. But with our current status of technology being iPhones and iPads with all of our emails and data being stored ‘in the cloud,' is it a shock to think that somebody other than us could see it? Yes, Edward Snowden broke laws regarding disclosure of private government information and he should be punished for his actions, but couldn't we say the same about the government's use of our information?It seems that we take for granted our so-called privacy, but with this release of Snowden's it doesn't seem that we can have any privacy at all these days. My answer is yes, I do believe that the government has stepped its' bounds on spying on its own citizens. I understand that they do so for the sake of protecting us from terrorism and that is great, that's what they are there for. My concern is that when spying becomes anything more than protecting the people, it crosses the line of being ethical and that is not right.As I stated earlier I think Snowden deserves some ort of sentence because he crossed the line on disclosure of documents to the public. That is the law and it should be obeyed, whether it is right or wrong he broke the rules. I haven't changed my online habits to protect my information because I do believe it's too late, especially with the rise of social media. People now a day are so eager to put out information that in some cases should be kept to themselves on Facebook statuses and in emails. When it comes to my personal information I fear the government more than industry.We live in a time now that if something bad appens, whether it be a serious crime or attacks against our country, the government is able to access all the information about you ever on the internet. Do you remember everything you posted on Facebook or online? What if they find something taken completely out of context but use it against you in an indictment? I believe that the technology we have these days is amazing and we should keep innovating but I'm Just worried that the soon all of our information, whether it be personal or professional will be online and accessible by someone, somewhere at any time.

In this essay I am going to analyze and discuss the theme of parenthood. I will only comment on the characters that are parents or come over as parents, namely, Mr. Bennet, Mrs. Bennet, Mr. Gardiner, Mrs. Gardiner and Lady Catherine De Bourgh. The last character mentioned may not come over as a parent but she acts like one. To begin with, I will start talking about the Bennet family. I went to the Erotic Heritage Museum in Las Vegas, located on 3275 Industrial road (major cross-street Desert Inn) which opened in August of 2008. At the museum it holds, erotic art, exhibits, different timelines and a lot of illustrated history of erotica. There were many tasteful pieces of artwork, whether it be painting, magazine covers, posters, figures, and sculptures. I was also very excited to have actually seen the piece called â€Å"Venus of Willendorf† that is featured in our book on page 164. I took my time looking at all the different pictures to see which I would choose from to write about. Then I observed one, it was untitled, made in 2008 and the artists name is Fang. I did research on the artist and did not find much on her other than the fact that she is called â€Å"The ugly artist†. Fangs paintings have a BDSM feel for them and use acrylic on canvas. This picture was like a grid pattern due to the elevator setup and was very low intensity on the colors. It was mostly different shades of browns and light brown with hints of red. The picture was taken of the inside of an elevator with a female standing in front of a mirror that was inside the elevator with the door open as she looked back at the opening. She was gorgeous and seductively staring as if she was trying to lure someone into the elevator with her. She wore black lingerie and thigh high stockings. The painting was donated a year after the opening of the museum and didn’t have much more information. I did find out the same title â€Å"Love is an elevator† is a song by the rock band called Aerosmith. Another lovely painting I was drawn to on the second floor of this huge museum was by Fried Pa’l. He is known for painting beautiful nude women with oil on canvas. The colors of this piece are neutral, and low intensity browns throughout most of the painting. It shows this beautiful, confident, yet flirty woman lying on a neutral colored background of saturated colors. Her figure has contour lines to define her body shape. She has pale colored skin, light pink nipples, light golden brown hair which she has one of her hands in. Her makeup colors are turquoise eye shadow, and coral colored lipstick. Her expression says to me â€Å"I know I am beautiful, and you desire to be with me†. Even though you said to only do three I saw another picture definitely worth writing about. It was simply painted pink and white with acrylic on canvas, no title and not signed. However it was donated to the museum by Ron McCallister when he passed away. Ron McCallister was Walt Disney’s best friend. If you look at the pictures Walt Disney has done, he always puts light bubbles everywhere in his art and you can tell his brush strokes. He wasn’t the best artist and this picture definitely could be his work. It was a picture of a pink male penis on the left of the painting and on the right was of an open mouth with the tongue on the tip of the penis. This is said to be the only erotic art Walt Disney has ever produced because he knew his best friend was into erotic art. Overall my experience at the Erotic Heritage museum was very pleasant, nothing too distasteful. I found this place to be comical, and a great place to get knowledge about sexual behavior. There were many different pictures and news clippings, and information on the erotica. There were lots of statues and old art showing different cultures views on sex. There were different views of women’s vaginas on the walls and also homosexuality views as well. I also saw the first â€Å"vibrator† as we call it today but back then it was the fifth electronic appliance. I enjoyed all of the art that I reviewed about for all the uniqueness of it overall. Throughout the whole two floors of the museum I was not disgusted by any of it mostly because I have a very open mind and think â€Å"outside the box†. It all was displayed very well throughout the museum and all of the staff was very helpful.
